Delania Heller Everybody Needs a Helping Hand

Feeding the Hungry

Thanksgiving Meals

Meet Your Neighbor Delania Heller & Everyone Needs a Helping Hand

[EDITOR’S NOTE: You are about to read one of the first stories from when BizNews was originally Engage Greater La Crosse – writing stories during the pandemic.]

Meet Delania Heller

Ticketing Counter by Day.
Community Helper by Passion.

If you’ve flown out of the La Crosse Regional Airport, odds are you’ve had your ID checked and bag tagged by Delania Heller, a 20+ year employee for airlines at this local transportation hub.

Her Passion

Helping others via a Facebook Group, Everyone Needs a Helping Hand.

For five years now, Delania has grown a grassroots connection point between people in need and those wanting to help, all via social media.

The endeavor began a few yeas ago when Delania and another person decided to organize ready-to-cook Thanksgiving meals for two families. The next year, they fed more families, organizing items into boxes on the sidewalk in front of Delania’s home.

The number of volunteers helping her grew. Her team, which she calls by the Facebook role, “Administrators”, include Mandy Meyer, Brook Hardison, Melissa Reese, and Orion Roen.

Delania’s aspirations grew too.

In 2020, the effort grew from preparing 76 families meals to 100, with more than 20 volunteers showing up at the American Legion in La Crosse to help assemble and deliver (touch-free) the meals.

Their efforts don’t end there.

For Christmas: Sponsor a Child

Everyone Needs a Helping Hand has more than 250 children needing assistance with Christmas Gifts.

Join their group on Facebook.

After Christmas, they begin working on Easter.
