In 1921 the Bricklayers Union voted to reduce wages by ten-percent, in agreement with the Master Builders’ Association (formerly known as the La Crosse Builders’ Association). The wage change aligned with state wages. Pay became $1.12 1/2 an hour for bricklayers and $0.87 1/2 an hour for stone masons. The wage scale impacted five counties: La Crosse, Monroe, Trempealeau, Vernon, and Crawford.
