1920 Builder laborers continue strike over Master Builders Association contractors signing Open Shop pledge
A few days after laborers working for members of the Master Builders Association went on strike, they declare they will be back at work in a few days. The strike organizer, R.G. Knutson said after the strike began, he received several calls from more than 25 local contractors stating they had not signed the Open Shop pledge as the Association had stated.
Meanwhile, the La Crosse Employers’ Association, newly formed to counter the strikes, declared the building trades strike was a violation of union contracts that require the unions go to mediation before going on strike.
Plasterers, laborers for the Master Builders Association member contractors, meanwhile sought work in Rochester, MN stating the work there paid more and supported unions.
